Here Are A Few Questions To See If You're Building A Championship Team.Â
- Today we sack your entire Team including you the Business Owner. How many are you re employing tomorrow? Everyone... 75%.... 50%.... 20%.... NONE? If you've read my school of Hard Knocks Story..... I had 38 staff, 30 were the wrong people and the 8 that were the right people were in the wrong roles, plus I didn't have the knowledge or training to be running the Business.

- Do you use Behaviour and Personality tools to recruit the right people for the right roles within the business? Our Experience is Most Business owners recruit people they like. The problem with that is the people they like are generally the same behavioural profile as them. Back in my food businesses I had a revolving door recruitment process, as fast as I'd recruit them others would leave or I'd have to move them on. Wow DiSC is a Game Changer
My wife and I completed a DiSC and Recruitment session with Bruce and Steve. Whilst the entire program was awesome, being introduced to the DiSC Behavioural Analysis for us was a game changer. We learnt so much about ourselves and the kids but quickly realised what a mess the team was. Understanding The Cycle Of Business
Yes, there is a Cycle and it applies to EVERY Business and goes in one direction only. For Business Owners that don't understand this simple concept they will be trying to be everything in their Business.
The role of the Business Owner is support the Team. That means Recruiting the right people, Training them and Retaining them.
The role of the Team is to support the Customer with awesome Customer Service.
The role of the Customer is to support the Business by returning, re purchasing, referring new customers.
The role of the Business is to reward the Owner with Profit.
A Little More On The Cycle Of Business
If you the business owner is flat out looking after the business AND the customers AND the team, then you hold the sole responsibility for running every aspect of the business. This is why many business owners feel over whelmed or over committed, plus see their team as under committed because of the favourite business owner statement "itâs hard to get good staffâââ.
Actually, the team HARDLY EVER take over responsibility for looking after Customers until the Business Owner trusts them and trains them and gives them the task of doing it... all of which is part of unravelling this model!
Likewise, when a business educates their Customers to understand why they receive great value from dealing with their business... and they actually deliver on it (!), Customers will look after that Business by paying on time, finding referrals and not challenging prices etc. Without this assistance from Customers, the Business Owner will be run ragged looking after their Team, their Customers and their Business.
Yes, we understand as a business owner when you start out you need to have a generalist role and do everything, as the business matures and the roles become more specialised. So when the model is working the Business owner looks after the team, the team look after the Customer and the Customer looks after the Business and the business looks after the owner.
Sounds GREAT!
But here is why the model in most cases doesnât work... Many business owners have more like a glorified job than a business and most wouldnât dream of letting their team deal with their customersâ.
